Designed 2 separate fixtures for two different but similar product lines. Test fixture used for rapid development of new tool and replacement of existing tool open face. Existing open face was more expensive, cramped, forced assembly to mirror in tool orientations and less featured overall. Newer fixture allowed for access to both top and bottom of each board in the tool, as well as access to each signal, voltage supply and return path in each harness between the boards. The whole structure was mounted on a 92mil thick PCB using smd screwthread standoffs. The Old fixtures 3D printed frame cost $300 dolars per unit, whereas in the new fixture costs were $90 overall, saving $210 per development station and test platform.
Developed around PIC161789 MCU. Platform allowed for testing three separate boards used in product to allow for on the fly assesment of board function prior to tool assembly. Saving roughly 2 hours of reassembly and debug work per tool.
